Jenahura star and brand ambassador Jamie Elson weathered an early set-back in the final round of the MENA Tour Championship to cruise to the coveted MENA Tour Order of Merit title from Henric Sturehed who destroyed a high quality field with a nine shot victory at Al Zorah Golf Club, Ajman UAE.

With the title, Jamie receives a guaranteed spot in the PGA Tour’s DEAN & DELUCA Invitational together with multiple European Tour starts in 2018, including the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, the Tropheé Hassan II and Maybank Championship in Malaysia.  All in all, a terrific reward for Jamie’s consistent golf across the globe in 2017.

Leading from the front is never straight forward however.  Heading into the final event of the MENA Tour, Jamie was in the boss seat but with double money on offer at the Tour Championship it gave his nearest challenges Luke Joy and Fredrik From a good chance to overturn the deficit.

Jamie stamped his authority with a brilliant opening round 66 (-6) to take an early lead which he followed up with rounds of 71 (-1) and 70 (-2) to lie in third place with a round to play and crucially ahead of Joy and From.

Joy burst out of the blocks on the final day with three birdies in his first five holes. Meanwhile, Jamie found water on the 2nd which resulted in a Double Bogey five. After just five holes Joy was in front of Elson and the Order of Merit title was thrown wide open.  Jamie steadied the ship however and made birdies at six and seven before a further birdie at 15 pretty much sealed the deal.

A relieved Elson said “I’m exhausted, exhilarated and excited!  I’ve played very consistently all year but the last couple of weeks I have had to grind hard to maintain my position at the top of the Order of Merit.  Front running is not easy, especially with so many quality players chasing you down!  It feels great to get my hands on the gold camel!”

Round of the day came from Jenahura youngster Ben Amor who posted 9 birdies in his final round of 64 (-8).  A brilliant way to close out his first season as a professional finishing in 16th position on the MENA Tour Order Merit – a terrific achievement from Ben.

An initiative of the Shaikh Maktoum Golf Foundation, the MENA Tour was created in 2011 with the aim of developing golf in the region. It is affiliated to R&A and the Arab Golf Federation and enjoys Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) status.
