It was a momentous and proud occasion for us when the European Tour visited Royal Golf Dar Es Salam near Rabat for the Trophée Hassan II. For the first and certainly not the last time, we were represented by two top class players – Richard McEvoy and Jamie Elson. The pair were re-united no less than 15 years after holding aloft the Walker Cup as part of the winning “dream team” that claimed the most prestigious amateur trophy in Sea Island, Georgia.
On an incredibly difficult golf course, there were mixed fortunes on the course for both players. Sadly, Jamie missed the cut despite a lot of very good play while Richie putted a little better but couldn’t quite match his ball striking form from the week before, eventually finishing in a tie for 47th position with only eight of the field of 140 breaking par. Jeunghun Wang from South Korea eventually claimed the title in a play-off over Spaniard Nacho Elvira.
Jamie now gears up for the start of the EuroPro Tour while Richie had a fast turnaround and headed for the paradise island of Mauritius.
