Golf’s equivalent of a 2 month tri-athlon started in September and it signaled the start of a long journey for our Jamie Elson.
Teeing up at Collingtree Park in the 1st qualifying stage of European Tour Q-School, Jamie set about his attempt to gain a full European Tour card impressively with a bogey free opening round of 68 (-4). As if the pressure of Q-School isn’t hard enough, the weather interrupted qualifier proved challenging for all the players and with rounds of 72 and 74 Jamie slipped back to the eventual qualifying score of -2 after three rounds.
The final round was a tense affair, especially after Elson double bogeyed the par-5 4th hole to drop him outside of an automatic qualification spot. Then came the fireworks! Jamie dug deep posting seven birdies in a roller-coaster ten hole stretch to eventually card 69 and in the end comfortably making it through to stage two! Well played Jamie and we wish you the very best of luck in November when Q-School heads to Spain for Stage Two. (venue TBC)
